Lucca is a famous town rich in many art testimonies and it is closed in walls of XVI cent. above which you can see many towers: the red one called Dei Guinigi, the Tower of Ore and many others.
Inside the walls you can find a fascinating city which is rich in treasures. Many old and little streets, stone and cotto buildings with antique windows full of flowers, small squares with gushing fountains, Byzantine mosaics, gardens full of statues, and high towards the sun precious marbles of monumental churches in front of wide squares: San Michele, S. Maria Forisportam, S. Frediano, the San Martino Cathedral where in the silent dim light Ilaria del Carretto rests, closed in the white sarcophagus by Jacopo della Quercia.
The pleasure that Lucca concedes is not only artistic, the old grocery and pastry shops situated in the via Fillungo offering the most exquisite local specialities, the wine taverns, the characteristic trattorias and the restaurants testify to the long tradition that the Lucchese have for the pleasures of the table.
This is also a form of culture that has been handed down for centuries and hopefully will never cease, as never passes by fashion for the art treasures that Lucca offers and permits to be lived daily.
